Description:This is a brush that can serve as a substitute for traditional karibake brushes used in Japanese painting. It is also suitable for use in anime background art.
Compared to traditional karibake brushes made from stiff deer hair, this version offers less precision and firmness, but we have created an affordable alternative called "Karibake-Nagomi" for Japanese painting use.
It is made by mixing soft goat hair with slightly shorter, stiffer pig bristles.
The pig bristles help control the overall movement of the brush tip, allowing only the very end to move flexibly while retaining firmness. This gives the brush enough strength to spread paint smoothly.
Additionally, the inclusion of short pig bristles creates slight spacing between the goat hairs at the tip, which helps the hairs separate more easily when wiped on a towel. This allows moisture between the hairs to be absorbed more efficiently, resulting in faster drying.
Important Note:
If pigment remains on the tip of the brush, do not soak the entire brush head in water. Doing so will prevent it from drying properly.
If the tip is stained with a strong color, quickly dip only the tip in water. The pigment will come off easily. Afterward, wipe the tip with a towel and it will dry quickly.
We also offer karibake brushes made with deer hair, which we highly recommend as well:
“Refined Karibake for Anime”
Although not made entirely from stiff deer hair to the very tip, this brush offers excellent firmness and dries very quickly. It is well-suited for Japanese painting as well.
All our brushes are handcrafted by artisans in Kumano Town, Hiroshima Prefecture—famous as Japan’s brush-making capital.
Our craftsmen carefully produce each brush by hand, respecting the traditions of Japanese culture while continuing the techniques passed down through generations.
